Finding the right sauce for your meals can be tiring especially when you have a large family where everyone's taste is different. Cheer up, because we have got you covered with the classic zip sauce recipe. Use it as a dipping sauce or as a glaze for your juicy steaks. This sauce is the ideal match for your steaks, vegetables, soups, and even seafood. With this recipe in hand, you don't need to run out to get the authentic zip sauce as now you can easily make it in no time.

The majority of the ingredients on the list are pantry essentials that you probably already have lying around in your kitchen, and the remainder can be easily acquired. The recipe can, of course, be modified to suit your taste.

Substitutions

  • Butter — Butter adds flavor and thickening to your sauce. The authentic zip sauce recipe calls for butter, but if you don’t have it in the pantry or you want to experiment, try adding any oil like avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil. A little heavy cream can also be added as a substitute for butter, but I recommend going with butter to achieve the authentic flavor this sauce is famous for.
  • Worcestershire sauce — This sauce gives a savory punch and adds dimension to your sauces. To substitute Worcestershire sauce, you can go for soy sauce, vinegar, or even red wine.
  • Dijon mustard — Dijon mustard gives a rich flavor and gives a spice kick to your sauces. A great substitute for Dijon mustard can be stone ground mustard, which is almost similar in taste. Mayonnaise is another great substitute for Dijon mustard, as it is tangy and creamy.

Variations

  • Elevate the flavor — To elevate the flavor of your sauce, try adding garlic or basil.
  • Tangy flavor — For those who are fans of extra tanginess, try adding 2 tsp. of lemon juice to the sauce.
  • Sweet taste — Use store-bought or homemade ketchup for the people who like their sauce on a sweeter side.
  • Gluten-free — Try using vegetable oil instead of butter to make this sauce gluten-free.

Equipment

  • Measuring spoons.
  • Mixing bowl.
  • Saucepan.
  • Spatula.
  • Mason jar.

Storage

  • Store this classic sauce in an air-tight container.
  • You can store the zip sauce in the fridge for a week or more.

Pro Tips

  • Don't overcook the sauce as it will lose its flavor. Make sure you bring the sauce to a simmer and turn off the heat.
  • To achieve the thick consistency, avoid adding flour, or else lumps will be created. Try using starch instead.
  • Planning to serve this sauce with juicy steaks? Here is what you can do to get the most flavor. Make your sauce in the same pan in which you have made your steaks so that it blends with the juices of the steaks and gives you the divine taste you have been looking for.
